I spent a good bit of time visiting mental institutions and old insane asylums while writing FAMILY INHERITANCE. The information I collected from doctors, patients, and other visitors was beyond enlightening. What I saw, heard, and smelled was invaluable to the story and in the development of one of the main characters. I also spent many nights alone in a skiff, way out in the swamp. Once again, this was another real-life experience that gave me the resources I needed to bring another character in the book to life.
